Annie Louise Alderman (mother of Mary Van Dell
Bingham) was born 6 September 1906 in
Doerun, Colquitt, Georgia, USA, to Robert Edmund Alderman and Minnie Louise
Anderson. They were married 13 April 1904 in Pavo, Thomas, Georgia,
USA.
My mother was the second of 5 girls. Her father died on 1909 from typhoid fever in Doerun, Colquitt, Georgia, USA. A daughter born about 1910, died at an early age from thyroid fever also. Around 1911, Minnie Louise Anderson married Norman Eugene Jackson about 1912 in Troy, Pike, Georgia, USA. He died in 1917 and they had 2 girls. Her mother died 15 May 1921 Phoenix City, Lee, Alabama. So, my grandmother was a widow at an early age with 5 girls. Minnie was left with no means to support herself and 5 girls. An Aunt Annie McGraw, widowed and a sister of Minnie, lived with them. It was a sad day when she hung herself and some of the girls including my mother were there. I was told by Aunt Roberta that their lives were so depressive and hard, that is the reason Aunt Annie McGraw hung herself. The family would often glean the fields after the harvest for food. They ended up in Phoenix City, Alabama, USA.
