Dutch Ship Disasters

The following is taken from an email from Grandma's friend Frances who helped her get started with her Dutch family history work, and took her to Holland. I asked her about the ship disasters that she mentioned during Grandma's funeral talk and this is what she replied:

Hi David,
I went through your family index and just brought up the Duijnker (Duinker) family to look for deaths at sea.
Mind that I just have 4000 names in your database, whereas Mary now has over 25,000.
Here are some of the names who drowned. Jan Dirks Duijnker, born 1741, Jan Simons Duijnker, born 1756, Jacob Gerard Christiaan Duinker, born 1892, Jan Jansz Duinker 26 aug 1825, died in the Atlantic Ocean. Jan Teunis Duinker born 3 aug 1836, Simon Duinker born 16 mar 1816, Teunis Duinker, born 15 sep 1863, Willem Teekesz Zwaal, lost at sea. Jan Simonsz Duijnker, born 14 jul 1782. He drowned 23 oct 1827 in Schulpengat by Texel. He was brought to land by Jan Knaap and he died at 2pm.
Cornelis Dirks Duijnker, died at sea after fighting a fire on board ship.
Jacob Simons Duijnker born 12 Feb 1762.
There is a lot of information on disasters in Holland by going to Google and typing in "List of Dutch disasters". It is totally amazing how Holland ever survived all the storms etc.
Hope you can go to Texel sometime and get a feel of what your ancestors went through.
Best wishes---let me know how you are doing and if you have more questions.
